  2. This is an example of an electronic (digital) newsletter displayed with the
  3. program XL2000.EXE.  You are actually using the XL2000 right now, but you may
  4. not distribute it with your electronic publications until you become a regist-
  5. ered user.  At that time you will receive your own licensed copy plus an
  6. entire collection of newsletter mastheads (titles).  Features are explained
  7. below.  Press F1 to display all commands.

  9.                             FEATURES OF THE XL2000
  10.                             ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  11. An electronic newsletter will operate with these features when it is displayed
  12. with XL2000.EXE:
  13.  
  14. 1. AutoScroll -- Everyone loves AutoScroll.  Press the F9 function key and
  15. watch a truly hands-free electronic newsletter become a reality.  The text
  16. scrolls upwards at an easily adjusted reading speed.  You may think you are
  17. looking at a computer screen on the Starship Enterprise!
  18.  
  19. 2. File Change -- One-touch file change is practical and fun to use.  Make as
  20. many different electronic newsletters as you like; each may have a different
  21. title.  While newsletter A is on-screen, press F6 and switch instantly to
  22. newsletter B.  Move ahead to C with F6, or back to A with F5.  The Digital
  23. Publishing Association uses this for its annual anthology of past issues.

  25. 3.  Color Change -- Press right or left cursor control keys (arrow keys) to
  26. see your text change color.  The reader may quickly select the color of his
  27. choice.  Choose black, blue, green, brown, yellow, magenta and more.

  29. 4.  DOS Shell -- Press F2 to drop out of the program for computer chores.
  30. Maybe you learned a fact from the on-screen newsletter, and you want to put
  31. the information in another document on your disk.  Type EXIT to return here.
  32.  
  33. 5.  "Hide, the boss is coming!" -- Press F7 and instantly your screen goes
  34. blank.  Use this to hide sensitive material or to blank the screen while away
  35. from your computer.  Press F7 again to instantly re-display the newsletter.

  37. 6.  Fancy Dissolves -- Everyone likes the visual effects of the "sweeps,"
  38. "swaps" and "dissolves" which occur when changing files with F6.  You will see
  39. similar effects when using F2 and F7 as well.

  41. 7.  Mouse Scroll -- It will not work with XL2000 which is operating now, but
  42. it will work when you get to XL2001 (coming up soon).  The mouse button will
  43. switch files, and moving the mouse will scroll the text up and down.

  45. 8.  Jumbo Fonts -- When you become a registered user, you receive, along with
  46. the registered programs, the shareware version of AutoFont.  AutoFont is the
  47. best jumbo font making program, and with it you will be able to type words
  48.

  53. 8.  Print File -- If a hard copy of the text is needed, the reader simply
  54. turns on the printer and presses F8 to print the file.  If the printer uses
  55. continuous-feed paper, the paper is automatically advanced to avoid printing
  56. on the perforations.

  58. To register and receive XL2000 as soon as possible, after you exit type COPY
  59. REGISTER.TXT PRN <CR>.  Registration includes your own personal copy of
  60. XL2000.EXE and/or XL2001.EXE and a license to distribute the program(s) with
  61. your electronic publication(s) for non-commercial use for a period of 5 years
  62. from the date of registration.  A commercial license is available for those
  63. who will use the XL2000 or XL2001 for on-screen catalogs and publications for
  64. which a fee is charged.  See REGISTER.TXT for details.
